From BMW Group Press Release
BMW today unveils the all-new fifth-generation BMW X5, ushering in a new era for one of the brand’s most successful models. Since pioneering the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment in 1999, the BMW X5 has redefined premium mobility by combining luxury, versatility and hallmark BMW driving dynamics.
The all-new BMW X5 marks another major milestone in the brand’s future-focused transformation. Bringing Neue Klasse design features, next-generation digital technologies and sixth-generation BMW eDrive innovation to the X model family, the new X5 sets a new benchmark in the premium SAV segment.
Since its launch, the BMW X5 has been a cornerstone of BMW’s success in Australia and worldwide. With local sales figures reaching over 80,000 in Australia and 3.1 million sold globally, it underscores the model’s enduring popularity in the premium SAV segment.
The all-new BMW X5 builds on this legacy with a bold new design, advanced digital technologies and the broadest powertrain portfolio ever offered for a BMW X model.
The BMW X5 will be available in Australia in Q4 2026 with four distinct drivetrain technologies, reflecting BMW’s technology-open approach to future mobility. The line-up will include petrol and diesel variants with 48V mild hybrid technology, one plug-in hybrid model, and for the first time – the fully electric BMW iX5.
Bold exterior, unmistakably X
The new BMW X5 introduces the next evolution of BMW’s X design language, characterised by a cleaner, more monolithic appearance and stronger road presence.
Its upright front end features a striking vertical BMW kidney grille, framed by new adaptive LED headlights with distinctive double-X light signatures, creating an unmistakable identity day or night. Sculpted surfaces, muscular wheel arches and flush BMW winglet door handles reinforce the vehicle’s powerful stance.
Wheel options now range from 21 to 23 inches, with eleven exterior paint finishes - including four BMW Individual colours - providing extensive personalisation.
Luxurious interior with next-generation digital experience
Inside, the new BMW X5 offers a refined, modern cabin with a spacious wraparound design. Premium materials including glass accents and, for the first time, natural slate surfaces create a sophisticated ambience. New X-pattern stitching, redesigned steering wheels and enhanced ambient lighting elevate both craftsmanship and comfort.
A major highlight is the debut of BMW Panoramic iDrive, powered by BMW Operating System X, representing BMW’s most advanced human-machine interface to date.
Key digital features include:
>BMW Panoramic Vision, projecting information across the lower windscreen
>BMW 3D Head-Up Display for driver-focused information
>17.9-inch Central Display with QuickSelect interface
>New BMW Passenger Screen, enabling entertainment, streaming and productivity for the front passenger
>The system combines touch, haptic and voice interaction, supported by the latest >BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with enhanced AI functionality.
>Electrification at the forefront
The new BMW X5 offers BMW’s most diverse propulsion strategy yet. The headline newcomer is the fully electric BMW iX5 60 xDrive, featuring sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology and an 800-volt architecture. Producing 425 kW and 805 Nm, it accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds while delivering a WLTP range of up to 845 kilometres and charging speeds of up to 460 kW.
Plug-in hybrid variants deliver impressive efficiency and performance:
>BMW X5 50e xDrive: 360 kW, up to 102 km electric range
>Traditional powertrain customers are equally well served with highly efficient six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines featuring 48V mild hybrid assistance.
>Benchmark driving dynamics and driver assistance
The fifth-generation BMW X5 continues BMW’s reputation for class-leading dynamics and ride comfort. Advanced suspension systems, near-perfect weight distribution and new chassis technologies ensure confident handling across all variants. The fully electric BMW iX5 introduces BMW Symbiotic Drive and Heart of Joy control systems, enhancing responsiveness and delivering smoother acceleration and braking.
Production and launch timing
Production of the new BMW X5 will commence in August 2026 at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg, BMW Group’s global centre of excellence for X models. The new BMW iX5 will be the first all-electric vehicle to be produced there. Combustion-engine variants will launch globally in November 2026, with battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants arriving in early 2027.
The new BMW X5 represents the next evolution of a model that helped define the premium SAV category - now more advanced, more versatile and more future-focused than ever before.
Pricing and detailed local specifications will be announced in Q3 2026, ahead of market arrival in Q4 2026.
